Is Morocco Expensive? What a Private Morocco Tour Costs

Real starting prices for a private Morocco journey, with boutique stays, your own English-speaking driver and a clear explanation of what is included.

Is Morocco expensive? It is one of the first questions people ask me, usually just before they ask what their own trip would actually cost. Both deserve a straight answer. Morocco can be visited on very different budgets. Travelling independently by train and bus, staying in simple guesthouses and finding your own guides costs one thing. A private journey with boutique stays, your own vehicle and driver, specialist local guides and every transfer coordinated costs another. Neither is the only worthwhile way to see the country.

Our private Morocco journeys start at US$2,316 per person for seven days, based on two adults travelling together. Below are the starting figures for seven, ten, twelve and fourteen days, what they include, what they do not, and the choices that move a quotation up or down. I plan and coordinate these journeys personally from Marrakech, so this is how we price our own work, not a national price index.

Private Morocco tour prices at a glance

These are the figures we start from when discussing a tailored private journey. Read them as a realistic opening point for a conversation, not a fixed menu.

Private tour lengthStarting price per personStarting total for two guests
7 daysUS$2,316US$4,632
10 daysUS$3,294US$6,588
12 daysUS$3,872US$7,744
14 daysUS$4,516US$9,032

Starting prices in US dollars, per person, based on two adults travelling together and sharing a double or twin room. These are planning figures for a private journey with our usual boutique accommodation standard. Your final quotation depends on travel dates, availability, room categories, route and requested experiences.

Per person, not per couple. Each figure in the middle column is for one traveller; the right-hand column is what two adults sharing a room would pay together. The prices cover the arrangements on the ground in Morocco. International flights are not included, and the exact number of nights is set out in your written proposal, together with any extra nights before or after the touring days.

These starting prices apply to two adults sharing. Solo travellers, larger parties and different room arrangements are quoted individually.

An illustrative example: two guests choosing a ten-day private journey at our usual standard would start from US$6,588 in total, or US$3,294 each. That is a starting-price example, not a real guest’s booking; your own figure depends on your dates and choices.

If you already know your dates, the simplest next step is to ask for a quotation for your own journey.

What does a seven-day Morocco tour cost?

From US$2,316 per person / US$4,632 for two.

A week is enough for a focused, satisfying first journey if the route is designed with restraint. The common mistake is trying to fit the whole country into seven days: Marrakech, the Sahara, Fes, Chefchaouen and the coast can all be connected on a map, but not comfortably in a week. A better plan chooses one main arc and allows time to enjoy it.

Shorter journeys do not become proportionately cheaper day by day. The vehicle, driver, guides and planning still need arranging, and a seven-day route often includes the longest daily drives of the trip. Our Morocco itinerary guide explains how to weigh destinations against days, and our seven-day private route from Marrakech shows one way a week can work. It is a demanding loop rather than a leisurely one, and we will say so honestly if a slower pace suits you better.

What does a ten-day Morocco tour cost?

From US$3,294 per person / US$6,588 for two.

Ten days is where Morocco starts to breathe. Depending on where you land and leave, it can combine historic cities, a crossing of the High Atlas, the southern valleys and a night in the Sahara without every day becoming a transfer. Arriving in one city and departing from another usually saves a full day of backtracking, so it is worth looking at flights and route together before booking either.

For a worked example, see our ten-day private journey from Casablanca, which begins at Morocco’s principal international airport.

What does a twelve-day Morocco tour cost?

From US$3,872 per person / US$7,744 for two.

The extra two days rarely mean two extra destinations. More often they buy better pacing: two nights in Fes rather than one, a slower day through the gorges, or time in the north when your flights arrive in Tangier. Our twelve-day route from Tangier to Marrakech is a good example of a one-way journey that uses the extra time well, linking the Mediterranean north with the imperial cities and the desert.

What does a fourteen-day Morocco tour cost?

From US$4,516 per person / US$9,032 for two.

Two weeks is the value of time. You are not forced to rush between regions, more stays can be two nights, and there is space for experiences that do not fit into a tight week: a mountain walk, a cooking afternoon, a quieter oasis. The Atlantic coast can be added when the final itinerary allows it, but it is an option rather than an automatic part of every fourteen-day quotation. Our Grand Morocco Tour shows how a full fortnight can be shaped.

What the quoted travel style includes

Every quotation is for a fully private journey for your own travelling party. Using our usual standard, the starting prices are based on:

  • Accommodation throughout the agreed itinerary in carefully selected boutique riads, hotels, kasbah-style stays or lodges.
  • A luxury desert camp with a private en-suite tent where the route includes the Sahara.
  • Breakfast throughout the included accommodation stay, and the selected dinners specified in your itinerary.
  • A private English-speaking driver for the touring route.
  • A suitable private vehicle — such as a Toyota Land Cruiser, Mercedes Vito or Ford Tourneo — according to group size, route and availability.
  • Fuel, tolls and parking for the agreed private route.
  • The airport transfers included in your itinerary.
  • Specialist local guides for the guided visits named in your proposal, most commonly in Fes and Marrakech.
  • The activities and visits explicitly listed as included in the written itinerary.
  • Personal planning and coordination by Morocco Shiny Days.

Two distinctions matter. Your driver accompanies you throughout the journey and knows the roads, regions and practicalities well, but is not automatically a licensed city guide. Guided walks in the medinas are led by specialist local guides for the visits listed in your proposal. And while we plan with a particular vehicle in mind, the model is confirmed according to group size, route and availability; the Land Cruiser is a four-wheel drive, the Vito and Tourneo are comfortable minivans.

Our journeys are not “all-inclusive”, and we prefer not to use the phrase: not every meal, drink, attraction or optional activity is part of the price. Monument and museum tickets are handled the same way as everything else — your written quotation identifies which entrance fees are included.

What are you paying for in a private tour?

A private journey is a combination of services rather than a single product. When you look at a quotation, these are the main elements behind it:

Accommodation and room category

The single most variable part. The same riad may offer a compact standard room and a generous suite, and the difference in price between them can be significant over two weeks.

Private vehicle, driver and route logistics

Your own vehicle and driver for the whole route, fuel, tolls, parking and the planning that makes long days work — where to stop, when to leave, which road to take in which season.

Local guiding and included experiences

Specialist guides in the cities and the visits or activities listed in your itinerary.

Desert arrangements

Where the route includes the Sahara: the camp, the transfer to it, dinner and breakfast, and the camp activities listed in your proposal.

Planning, coordination and support

Designing the route around your flights and interests, confirming every supplier, adjusting plans when something changes, and being reachable during the agreed journey.

When comparing two companies, compare these elements line by line. A lower figure can be perfectly fair, or it can reflect simpler rooms, fewer guided visits, a shared vehicle or longer driving days.

What does four-star or boutique accommodation mean in Morocco?

We describe our usual standard as roughly four-star comfort or a comparable boutique standard. That is a description of the experience, not a claim that every property holds an official four-star classification — many of Morocco’s loveliest riads and camps sit outside that system altogether.

In practice, a star label tells you less than the details: where the riad is in the medina and how far the car can reach, whether the room has its own bathroom and good water pressure, whether there is heating for winter nights in Fes and cooling for summer in Marrakech, how many steep stairs lead to the room, and how the hosts look after you. Those are the things we weigh when choosing.

Representative properties we work with, subject to your final quotation and availability, include Riad Kalaa in Rabat; Lina Ryad & Spa or Dar Jasmine in Chefchaouen; Riad Joy in Fes; Ksar El Kabbaba or Le Jardin de Skoura in Skoura; Riad Adore or Riad Nashira & Spa in Marrakech; and Arabian Nights Desert Camp near Merzouga. These are examples of our style, not guaranteed reservations at every starting price. Our guide to Morocco riads explains what to expect from staying in one.

Arabian Nights is part of my own operation in Merzouga. Guests there have a private tent with its own bathroom and hot shower, dinner and breakfast, and the camp activities listed in their proposal. Routes and desert excursions differ, so not every quotation includes the same experiences.

Palace hotels and exceptional luxury properties sit outside these starting prices and are quoted separately; our page on private luxury Morocco tours covers that style of journey.

Why private tour prices change

The same route can be quoted differently for different travellers. The main reasons are:

  • Travel dates and demand. Accommodation availability and rates move with the calendar, and Christmas, New Year and other busy periods are usually in higher demand.
  • Room choice. Standard rooms and suites can differ widely.
  • Solo travel. A single traveller does not share the room or the vehicle, so the per-person figure is different.
  • Group size. More travellers may need a larger vehicle and more rooms.
  • Route length and long transfers. A route that starts and finishes far apart, or that reaches remote regions, involves more driving and logistics.
  • Extra nights and airport positioning. A night near the airport before an early flight is sometimes the sensible choice.
  • Special interests. Private hikes, specialist guides and optional activities are added to the base arrangements.
  • Availability in remote regions, where good properties are fewer.

Season is less simple than “summer is cheap, winter is quiet.” Coastal, mountain and desert destinations have different patterns of demand and comfort. Our guide to the best time to visit Morocco helps you choose dates for the experience first.

Is it cheaper to book everything yourself?

Sometimes, yes — and for some travellers it is the right choice. If you enjoy organising, are comfortable on trains and buses or with a rental car, and like choosing every hotel yourself, independent travel can work very well in Morocco. Some people combine both: independent days in a city, then a private transfer or a few days with a driver.

A private tour adds coordination, flexibility on the road and the ease of an organised journey: one person who knows the whole plan, adjusts it when needed and handles the logistics in between. It is not always cheaper and not always more expensive than booking yourself. The fair comparison uses the same accommodation standard, the same meals, transport, guiding, tickets and support.

Can you book a private driver without accommodation?

Yes. If you prefer to choose and book your own hotels, a transport-and-guiding arrangement can be discussed. We do not publish a starting price for this, because it depends on the route, number of days, group size and the services you need. The quotation sets out clearly what is and is not included.

How much extra spending money should you plan?

Plan a separate budget for the things a quotation does not normally cover: lunches and any dinners not listed, drinks, tips, shopping and optional experiences. How much depends very much on your habits — a carpet or a fine dinner changes the picture quickly — so we do not publish a daily allowance.

Your final itinerary makes the estimate easier, because it lists exactly which meals and activities are already included. If you would like to understand shopping before you go, our guide to what to buy in Morocco covers craftsmanship, bargaining and shipping. Payment arrangements for the journey itself are set out in our booking terms.

Ways to manage the budget without weakening the trip

  • Choose a coherent route around your flights rather than fitting the flights around a route.
  • Avoid unnecessary backtracking; open-jaw flights often help.
  • Balance one or two special hotel nights with good boutique stays elsewhere.
  • Choose rooms for suitability — space, light, stairs, bathroom — rather than the category name alone.
  • Keep enough time for the places that matter most to you instead of adding more stops.
  • Ask for a clear list of inclusions so nothing is assumed.
  • Share your dates and budget early, so the itinerary can be designed realistically from the start.

What we would not suggest is cutting essential comfort or loading extra hours of driving into a day simply to lower the headline price. That rarely makes for a better journey.

Questions to ask when comparing Morocco tour quotations

  • Is the tour private throughout?
  • Is the price per person or for the whole group?
  • Which accommodation and room categories are included?
  • How many nights are included?
  • Which meals are included?
  • Which local guides, tickets and activities are included?
  • What vehicle is planned?
  • Are airport transfers included?
  • What remains payable locally?
  • What are the booking and cancellation terms?

Morocco trip cost FAQs

Is Morocco expensive for tourists?

Morocco can suit many budgets. Independent travel with trains, buses and simple guesthouses costs far less than a private journey with boutique stays, a dedicated vehicle and driver, local guides and full coordination. The right comparison is between journeys of the same standard.

How much does a seven-day private Morocco tour cost?

Our seven-day private journeys start at US$2,316 per person, or US$4,632 for two adults sharing a room. That covers ground arrangements at our usual boutique standard, not international flights. The final figure depends on dates, room categories and route.

What is the starting price for a ten-day Morocco tour for two people?

A ten-day private journey starts at US$6,588 in total for two adults sharing a double or twin room, which is US$3,294 per person. This is a starting figure, not a fixed price for every date.

How much does a fourteen-day private Morocco tour cost?

Fourteen-day private journeys start at US$4,516 per person, or US$9,032 for two adults sharing. Your written proposal confirms the route, nights, room categories and inclusions.

Are accommodation and breakfast included?

Yes. Accommodation throughout the agreed itinerary and breakfast during the included stays are part of our quotations. Selected dinners are included where the itinerary lists them; lunches and other dinners are not included unless specified.

Are the quoted prices per person or per couple?

The prices in this guide are per person, based on two adults travelling together and sharing a room. The total for two is shown next to each figure so the two are not confused.

Can we book a private driver and arrange our own hotels?

Yes, a transport-and-guiding arrangement can be discussed if you prefer to choose and book your own hotels. We do not publish a starting price for it, because it depends on the route, number of days, group size and services required; the quotation defines exactly what is included.

Does travelling with more people reduce the price per person?

It can, because vehicle and guiding costs are shared by more travellers. Room arrangements and the vehicle needed for the group also matter, so every group receives its own quotation rather than a standard discount.
