Day 1
Arrival in Tangier
Welcome to Morocco. Your Morocco Shiny Days driver will meet you at Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, Tangier port, the railway station or another agreed location, then transfer you privately to your accommodation inside or close to Tangier's historic medina. After international travel, this day is deliberately simple rather than overloaded with scheduled sightseeing. Settle into your riad, walk into the medina if you have the energy, enjoy dinner and begin absorbing the atmosphere of a city shaped by its position between the Mediterranean and Atlantic and by centuries of Moroccan and international influence. Overnight in Tangier medina.
Day 2
Private Tangier Tour → Chefchaouen
After breakfast, meet a knowledgeable local guide for a private exploration of Tangier that goes beyond a superficial medina walk. Depending on interests and timing, discover the kasbah, old medina, historic international quarters and the city's relationship with the Strait of Gibraltar. Where appropriate, continue toward the Atlantic side and Cape Spartel area before leaving Tangier. Travel inland toward the Rif Mountains as the landscape becomes progressively greener and more mountainous, then arrive in Chefchaouen and settle into a riad inside or close to the medina. The evening is at leisure. Overnight in Chefchaouen.
Day 3
Chefchaouen — Full Day
There is no major road journey today, and that is intentional. Many Morocco itineraries reduce Chefchaouen to a few hours; this route gives you time to experience it. Explore the blue-painted medina at your own rhythm, discovering small squares, artisan workshops, markets, the kasbah and residential lanes. Travelers interested in walking can explore above the town or take an appropriate hike depending on fitness, weather and season. Leave space for cafés, photography and simply wandering. Slow time is part of the experience. Second overnight in Chefchaouen.
Day 4
Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Meknes → Château Roslane
Leave the Rif Mountains after breakfast and travel south toward Morocco's historic heartland. Explore the archaeological remains of Volubilis with an appropriate local guide, including mosaics, arches and surviving structures that reveal a very different chapter of Moroccan history. Continue to Meknes and begin discovering the imperial city's monumental architecture, allowing the schedule to complement the following morning rather than rushing every sight. Then leave the city for Morocco's wine-growing countryside and arrive at Château Roslane or the selected wine-estate accommodation. This is intended as an experience rather than simply another hotel. A vineyard experience, Moroccan wine tasting and dinner can be included when available in the personalized package; exact wines, cellar activities and meals are confirmed in the final quotation. Day 5
Wine Country → Guided Meknes → Fes
Enjoy a slower morning at the wine estate before returning to Meknes for a deeper guided exploration. Discover the historic medina and monumental legacy of Sultan Moulay Ismail with a knowledgeable local guide. The exact monuments remain adaptable to current opening and restoration conditions. After lunch or later in the afternoon, make the relatively short journey to Fes and check into a traditional riad. The evening is free to settle into the atmosphere of Morocco's oldest imperial city. Day 6
Fes — Private Guided Cultural Tour
Spend a full day discovering Fes with a knowledgeable licensed local guide. The focus is not simply ticking off monuments. Enter Fes el-Bali and explore the living medina: its labyrinth of lanes, historic madrasas, artisan districts, souks, traditional workshops, communal bakeries, food markets, fondouks and famous tanneries. Day 7
Fes → Ifrane → Cedar Forests → Middle Atlas → Ziz Valley → Merzouga
Today the journey turns south. Leave Fes and climb into the Middle Atlas, passing Ifrane and continuing through cedar country, where Barbary macaques may be seen. Travel through the changing landscapes around Midelt toward the dramatic Ziz Valley and pause at a panoramic viewpoint above its vast palm-filled corridor. As the road approaches the Tafilalt, the scenery becomes increasingly Saharan. Continue through Erfoud or Rissani toward Merzouga and the immense dunes of Erg Chebbi. Depending on arrival time and the final arrangement, travel into the dunes for sunset by camel. Camel riding is always optional; guests can reach camp privately by 4x4 instead. Dinner beneath the desert sky is followed by traditional music around the campfire when conditions allow. Overnight in a private en-suite desert camp at Erg Chebbi.
Day 8
Erg Chebbi — Private Sahara Experience
This second Sahara day is deliberate, not a generic free day. After breakfast, set out by private 4x4 to explore the landscapes and communities around Erg Chebbi. According to interests and local conditions, the experience may include desert tracks, panoramic dune viewpoints, tea with a nomadic family, conversations about contemporary nomadic life, fossil or mineral landscapes, desert villages, music and cultural encounters, and lunch with a local Amazigh family or traditional medfouna. Local families are never treated as attractions; encounters should be respectful and genuine. Return later for time among the dunes, sandboarding, sunset, photography or simply enjoying the desert. Optional ATVs or buggies can be arranged separately at additional cost. The second night may remain at camp or use a carefully selected desert-edge property, depending on the customized itinerary. Second overnight around Erg Chebbi or Merzouga.
Day 9
Merzouga → Rissani → Todra Gorge → Valley of Roses → Skoura
Leave the Sahara after breakfast, pass through Rissani and travel west toward Tinghir. Explore the spectacular Todra Gorge and its palm-filled surroundings before continuing through Boumalne Dades and the Valley of Roses. Rather than ending in a roadside town, continue to one of Morocco Shiny Days' favorite southern landscapes: Skoura Oasis. Arrive among thousands of palms, earthen villages and historic kasbahs, then settle into a character kasbah or oasis lodge for dinner. Overnight in Skoura.
Day 10
Skoura → Aït Ben Haddou → Ounila Valley → Telouet → High Atlas → Marrakech
Begin with time in Skoura and, where appropriate, visit Kasbah Amridil to learn about traditional oasis life and architecture. Continue toward Ouarzazate and the UNESCO-listed ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, then explore the historic fortified settlement before leaving the main road for one of Morocco Shiny Days' preferred routes. Travel through the Ounila Valley toward Telouet, passing earthen villages and extraordinary High Atlas scenery along part of the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Visit Telouet Kasbah where appropriate, cross the High Atlas and descend into Marrakech. Check into your riad. Overnight in Marrakech.
Day 11
Marrakech — Private Guided Tour
Spend the day discovering Marrakech privately with a knowledgeable local guide. Rather than following a generic checklist, explore the historic medina, architecture, souks and artisan quarters while learning about the city's history and contemporary life. The precise monuments are adapted to interests and current opening or restoration conditions. Possible elements include historic palaces, madrasas, gardens, traditional neighborhoods, artisan workshops and the souks, with room for food, craftsmanship and genuine interaction. The guided day leaves enough independent time later to enjoy Marrakech at your own pace. Second overnight in Marrakech.
Day 12
Marrakech — Departure
Enjoy breakfast and free time according to your flight schedule, followed by a private transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport. For guests remaining in Marrakech independently, drop-off arrangements can be adapted accordingly. The standard 12-day journey ends here after travelling from Morocco's northern gateway through the Rif, imperial cities, wine country, Middle Atlas, Sahara, southern oases and High Atlas to Marrakech. Casablanca is not part of this standard ending; a different finish must be designed around your onward flight rather than added as a rushed departure-day drive.
Why Begin Your Morocco Journey in Tangier?
Morocco does not have to begin in Casablanca or Marrakech. Tangier creates a natural north-to-south route: start beside the Strait of Gibraltar, explore northern Morocco and the Rif, then move progressively through the imperial cities, Middle Atlas, Sahara, southern oases and High Atlas. It avoids unnecessary backtracking and turns the changing geography into part of the journey. It works particularly well for travelers flying into Tangier, arriving from Europe, combining Spain and Morocco, or simply wanting a different first encounter with the country. A balanced north-to-south pace
Unlike shorter circuits, the itinerary protects two nights around Chefchaouen, two in Fes, two around Erg Chebbi and two in Marrakech. There are substantial road journeys, especially between Fes and Merzouga, but they alternate with full non-transfer days. Mountain passes, cedar forests, the Ziz Valley, desert approaches and oasis roads make the road itself part of the experience rather than empty time between hotels.
Not Morocco through a windshield
This is a substantial crossing, but it is not designed as a race to photograph landmarks. Time is deliberately protected for a full Chefchaouen day, wine country, a privately guided Fes day, a second Sahara day, oasis experiences, back roads, appropriate encounters with local families and a full Marrakech day. The route prioritizes depth where it matters rather than adding more one-night stops.
Accommodation philosophy
We prefer character and location over generic international hotels: a boutique riad or guesthouse inside or near Tangier medina; an atmospheric Chefchaouen riad, with views where possible; Château Roslane or a suitable wine-estate experience subject to availability; a traditional Fes riad; private en-suite desert accommodation; a Skoura kasbah or oasis lodge; and a boutique Marrakech riad. Château Roslane is the intended experience, not a guarantee. If unavailable, Morocco Shiny Days will propose an appropriate alternative before confirmation.
The Road Is Part of the Journey
This is more than transportation between hotels. For smaller private parties, we favor comfortable 4x4 vehicles such as Toyota Land Cruisers where appropriate, allowing secondary roads and scenic routes that larger vehicles often avoid. An appropriate premium vehicle is selected for the party size. An experienced English-speaking Morocco Shiny Days driver accompanies the road journey, while local specialist guides join in Tangier, Volubilis where appropriate, Meknes, Fes and Marrakech. Drivers are not presented as licensed city guides.

The standard itinerary finishes in Marrakech. A Casablanca finish can also be designed around confirmed flights, but we do not simply bolt a long Marrakech-to-Casablanca airport drive onto departure morning. Morocco Shiny Days can redesign the final days, reduce or move sightseeing, or add a strategically placed overnight so the ending remains realistic and comfortable.
