Day 1 – Marrakech – AitBenHaddou – Ouarzazate
You will be picked up in the morning from your hotel/riad in Marrakech and depart towards Ouarzazate via the Tickha Pass (2260m) which just so happens to be the highest road pass in Morocco. The anoramic and beautiful views of the High Atlas Mountains and magnificent landscapes, scenery peppered by small Berber villages typical of the region. Visit of Kasbah Telouet – an extraordinary sight of the Atlas, a extravagant residence and headquaters of the powerful Glaoui tribe. Visit Ait Ben Haddou – UNESCO protected city that inspired many movie makers. One of which being the classic Gladiator Then continue on to Ouarzazate. Overnight in Ouarzazate, dinner.
Day 2 – Ouarzazate – Rose Valley – Dades Gorge
In the morning visit the movie studios in Ouarzazate and another impressive Kasbah Taorirt. Continue your journey off road to the palm tree oasis of Finnt. After visit of Finnt follow the road of Thousand Kasbah, passing the Skoura oasis onto Rose Valley. Famous for the production of Moroccan roses, a wide array of rose products available including perfumes, soaps, gels, and creams. Then pass the interesting rock creation of Tamnalt Hills and arrive to Dades Gorge, carved for centuries by the Dades River. The natural scenery of red and mauve rock towers above the road and creates a beautiful site. Overnight in Dades Gorge, dinner & breakfast.
Day 4 – Erg Chebbi – Merzouga – Midelt – Fes
Awake early to greet your new day, and see the beautiful sun rise over the sand dunes. After breakfast in the desert return to Merzouga to shower and depart. Travel onto Efroud where you will see the sudden change in the scenery. Drastically the desert, dry land will change into the green valley of Ziz, date palms and green gorges. Erfoud is known for having the biggest date festival in all of Morocco. Then continue onto the Middle Atlas Mountains passing Ifrane and Azrou. A forested cedar hillsides where colony of monkeys will keep you amused and entertained.
Day 4: Ifrane, Azrou, Erfoud
With Fez in the rearview mirror, enjoy a scenic drive through cedar forest to Ifrane, a European-style village with Alpine climate and a popular ski resort in the winter. Next, pass through the forested city of Azrou, surrounded by mountains and home to Barbary macaques, nearly domesticated by frequent interactions with human visitors. A few hours later, arrive “on a different planet” — this area of Morocco has been identified as being very similar in appearance and possibly geology to certain areas on the planet Mars. A kasbah in the oasis village of Erfoud will be home for the night. Relax in the refreshing pool before or after a traditional Moroccan dinner.
